Memphis, TN May 26, 2016 – WREG-TV News Channel 3, Tribune Broadcasting’s Memphis station, is number one in news ratings in May, marking the 5th year in a row of consecutive sweeps wins.

News Channel 3 came out on top in most head-to-head ratings races, including Morning, Noon, 4PM, 4:30PM, 10PM and in every weekend newscast.

Nielsen Media Research measures viewing monthly in the Memphis TV market. These results are for the 28 day period from April 29—May 25. One rating point equals approximately 6,600 households, or roughly 17,233 people.

Highlights from the complete live+same-day viewing household numbers by time period:


WREG has the highest rated single newscast of the week, Sunday at 10PM.

WREG has the highest rated weekday newscast, weeknights at 10PM.

WREG wins mornings through 7AM with its local news broadcast.

WREG wins midday news, head-to-head against WMC at Noon, and scores higher ratings than 11AM newscasts on WHBQ and WATN.

WREG wins at 4, 4:30, and 10PM. Only 0.2 points separate WMC and WREG at 5PM, and WMC wins at 6PM weekdays.


WREG airs the highest rated local sports show among all local media: Friday Sports Overtime with Glenn Carver.


WREG is number one on Saturday and Sunday as well, with dominant ratings in the morning and late news, and strong numbers in the early evening.
